Policies
Editorial policy
Readers use our stories to spend real money on their homes. These are the standards we hold ourselves to so that trust is deserved.
Independence
We publish no sponsored stories, sell no links and accept no payment for coverage or placement in a guide. Brands do not see stories before publication. If we are ever lent a product to test, we say so in the story and return it afterwards.
Reporting and testing
Advice is based on direct experience, measurement or named expert sources. Where we give a dimension, cost or specification, we state the assumption behind it. Costs are given as ranges and dated.
Who writes our stories
Every story carries the name of the editor who reported it. You can read about each of them on our about page.
Links and citations
We link to outside sources only when we are citing them — a standards body, a manufacturer’s technical data — and never in exchange for anything. Links we have not chosen editorially are marked nofollow.
Photography
Photographs are credited in their captions. We do not present staged or computer-generated rooms as real homes.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it and add a dated note at the foot of the story saying what changed. To report an error, use our contact form and choose “A correction”.
Updates
Guides are reviewed at least once a year. When a story is materially updated, the date at the top changes and we note what was revised.
