For a very long time, I was contemplating whether I should get a Google Nest for myself or not. I’ve been putting it off for a while now since it seemed like an unnecessary expense to me. However, I recently went to a friend’s house and he had a Google Nest, allowing me to experience it in the flesh.

That got me convinced about getting a Google Nest to make my home smart. Having a Google Nest system has significantly improved my daily tasks. Read ahead to find out about some of the prominent reasons why I recommend getting Google Nest:

It is a Greener Approach to Life

The first thing that I noticed after installing a Google Nest was that it was helping me save a lot of energy at home, making a Google Nest a sustainable solution to small energy problems going on at home.

The Nest thermostat helps save energy and money by analyzing the energy usage patterns in your home. Once it figures out a pattern, it optimizes your energy usage so that your appliances consume less energy. Most houses in the United States come with an integrated HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) system that can cause fluctuations in energy usage if not observed.

Using Nest, you can set schedules to run your HVAC system more efficiently. You can set it to turn off when you are not home or don’t need it. This way you can save up on energy and your electricity bill.

It Offers Better Wi-Fi Coverage

A Google Nest device also acts as a mesh network, giving better Wi-Fi coverage throughout your house. Nest Wi-Fi points also act as a speaker with an integrated Google Assistant, allowing you to give a voice command wherever you have a Google Nest installed.

To get the best internet speed, just having a mesh network isn’t going to cut it, you’ll also need a superfast internet service to make the most out of your internet speed. Luckily, I already had an Xfinity Internet connection at home, and having a mesh network just gives me better internet speed and signals no matter where I am in my house.

It Can Be Used as a Remote Control

If you have a smart heating and air conditioning system, you can connect it to the Nest Hub to manage from your smartphone conveniently. This allows you to use your smartphone and your Nest Hub as a Remote Control.

This doesn’t only apply to your HVAC system, but any other smart device that is connected to your Nest. For instance, if you have smart bulbs installed in your home and they are connected to your Nest, then you can tweak the settings of your light using your smartphone, again using the Nest as a relay device.

You Can Use it as a Smart Speaker

As much as I hate doing mundane tasks at home such as cleaning up and doing the dishes, listening to music makes the process a lot easier for me. I just connect my Spotify to Google Nest and change music through voice commands!

Not just that, but Nest can also recognize popular artists and play their music. For instance, whenever I’m doing chores, I ask Nest to play songs by Tame Impala and it does! Similarly, I can also play my specific playlists through Nest, eliminating the need for me to take out my phone to start a playlist.

Even if you don’t want to play songs on Spotify, you can connect your phone to Nest using Bluetooth to play the songs you have on your device. Either way, Google Nest works brilliantly as a smart speaker.

It Can Help You Plan Your Day

You can set up a “Good Morning” routine for yourself where your Nest gives a snippet of your day such as the weather, events in calendar, commute, any reminders, and necessary news. You can also ask Nest about the traffic situation, and whether there are any potential blockages or not.

If you travel frequently, then you can stay up to date with all upcoming flights by asking Nest about them. All these things are useful for unorganized people like myself. My day being automated is nothing short of a blessing.

Some Bonus Benefits of Google Nest

Apart from all the things mentioned above, Google Nest can also help you do mundane tasks such as make calls to your contacts, set tasks for you to do throughout the day, ask your Google Assistant to remember things for you, and find your phone inside your home in case you put it somewhere and forget it!
